Every piece has been "hand-made". They're not mass produced by milling machines or CNC devices. Although we have given you specific dimensions for an item, variations will occur. This happens once we have assembled the pieces and discover a flaw or imperfection that would make the piece weak or less appealing. We are also artisans. So, as we are designing a piece, we take into consideration the size of the pieces, how the colors work with each other and how the grains of the wood blend together. Our goal with each piece is to create what we call a piece of "functional art."

Unlike big manufacturers, who only use select portions of a tree, we use all of the wood that comes from the tree. Good examples of this are the cherry and walnut woods that we use. The nice red that you see in cherry and the dark brown that you see in walnut are what's called the “heart wood” of the tree. It's the old growth of the tree and located in the center. They both have what's called sap wood, which is the growth between the heart wood and the bark of the tree. In the case of cherry, that wood is blond. In the case of walnut, it's a medium grey. You'll never see these woods used by a big furniture maker. It's only the Amish and smaller woodworkers who use it, because we see the beauty in what Mother Nature made. So, don't be surprised if you see a couple of pieces of wood, of the same species, and one of them appears to have a stain or blemish in it. It was how nature intended it to grow.

In the last two years, we have discovered a new wood product, bamboo laminate. It has a very nice grain, it’s stable and is easy to work. It’s also a fast growing and renewable resource. We use it to create our bread boards, charcuterie boards, sushi boards and coasters.
